Foreign Aid is a controversial subject despite the fact that no countries give a significant portion of their wealth away. Sweden tops the list of donors with 1.4% of their Gross National Income. 'How much is doing enough?' is a good question. We also have an awful history of people trying to help others through 'Civilising Missions'. One problem with Foreign Aid is the Foreign, and the other problem is the Aid. National Borders are made up. It isn't okay to just worry about 'your own people' when the world is so deeply connected. If your neighbour's house is on fire, it is also your problem. Giving them a cup of water isn't the point. The problem with Aid, is it suggests a hierarchy. It suggest those who are helping know the solution. It stops people from seeing each other. There has to be a better way to unwind Global Apartheid than Foreign Aid.
