Armenia

Armenia became the world's first Christian state in 301 AD. Later it was split between the Byzantine Empire (The Greek East to the Latin West of Rome) and the Sasanian Empire (The last Persian Empire before the rise of Islam). It then came under the Muslim Seljuk Empire of the Turks. Then at times Mongol, Iranian, Ottoman and Russian Empires. The word 'Genocide' - systematically eliminating an ethnic, national, racial or religious group - was coined in response to the wholesale killing of able-bodied male Armenians during World War I. 3.2 million Armenians live there, with about 8 million as part of its Diaspora. Still ethnic Armenians make up about 98% of the population. People don't leave home easily.
