Argentina (8th biggest) just pips Kazakhstan (9th) in size with a mainland area of 2.8 million km². It is the largest Spanish speaking country. Mexico has the most Spanish speakers. Brazil is the largest Portuguese speaking Country. The Democratic Republic of the Congo is the largest French speaking country. With more than a billion people each, China & India are bound to compete for who has the most English Speakers. For now, it's the United States. Europe is little compared to its former colonies. Argentina's 1810-1818 independence was followed by an extended Civil War ending in 1861. Massive waves of European Immigration followed and it was the 7th wealthiest nation by the early 20th century before falling back into political instability and periodic crisis.
